Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Β· PhD Candidate in Psychology
Ashley Gonzalez is a Licensed Professional Counselor born and raised in Rio Grande City, Texas, who brings deep roots in the Rio Grande Valley into her clinical work. Growing up in this community shaped her understanding of the cultural, social, and family dynamics that impact mental health, allowing her to connect with clients in an authentic and meaningful way.
She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents in Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) settings, where she provided mental health services to unaccompanied minors who arrived in the United States without their parents or legal guardians. In this role, she worked closely with youth who experienced trauma related to migration, family separation, violence, and displacement β strengthening her ability to support vulnerable populations through trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.
Ashley holds advanced training in trauma-informed care, immigration-related mental health, and cultural competence. As a PhD candidate in Psychology, she integrates research-based practices into her clinical work, with a strong foundation in psychological assessment, trauma recovery, and evidence-based treatment. Her doctoral research focuses on immigration-related mental health and culturally competent service delivery.
She also serves in the U.S. Army Reserve, which has shaped her clinical approach through discipline, leadership, and a strong commitment to service. Her military experience deepened her understanding of trauma, resilience, and the psychological impact of high-stress environments.
